State-Sponsored Programs to Assist Seniors in Massachusetts

Recently, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs shared information about some state-sponsored programs that might be of interest to seniors.   They include the following:

1. Home Modification and Loan Program – offered by the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) and provides 0% to 3% loans (up to $30,000) to help Massachusetts homeowners make modifications that will help them stay at home (such a, ramps, star lifts, kitchen and bathroom adaptations, home security, etc.). 2. The SHINE Program – provides free health insurance information, counseling, and assistance to Massachusetts residents with Medicare and those with disabilities.   Trained counselors can help with:  Medicare and insurance options; identifying the right coverage options; and, applying to appropriate programs that help you to save money.  For more information, visit:  http://www.mass.gov/elders/healthcare/shine/serving-the-health-information-needs-of-elders.html

3. Prescription Advantage – provides prescription drug coverage to Massachusetts residents age 65 and older and younger individuals with disabilities who meet income and employment guidelines.  For more information, visit: http://www.mass.gov/elders/healthcare/prescription-advantage/

4. MCPHS University Pharmacy Outreach – is a non-profit organization promoting medication adherence by providing help to Massachusetts residents with their medication related needs.  Their team works with residents to discuss such issues as medication affordability and understanding how to take their medications correctly.  For more information, visit: www.mcphs.edu/pharmacyoutreach
